Cottage row. Late C17 with C18 and C19 extensions in similar style to
left, and C20 extensions set back to left end. Galleted ironstone rubble
with brick dressings to right, red brick to centre, red and blue brick to
left of centre, red brick to left end. Plain tiled roof. Two storeys on
plinth with brick plat band over ground floor and wooden eaves band on
cottages to right and centre. Rear ridge stack to right, front stack to
right of centre, three ridge stacks to left of centre and end left.
Casement fenestration of 14 windows across first floor, those in right
hand cottages with brick dressings. Gauged brick heads to four windows
to left of centre. Eight ground floor casements and one small casement
window, most under gauged brick heads. Blind panel to right. Door in
Knowles Cottage to right under cambered, gauged brick head. Half-glazed
door to right in gabled open porch with quatrefoil decoration in cusped
bargeboards (No.1). Part-glazed door to centre under cambered head (No.2).
Identical part-glazed doors under gabled hoods, bargeboarded, on braces
to left of centre and left end (Nos. 3 and 5). Some timber posts and
possible blocked stable entrance to centre.
Rear: gabled brick wings to right. Lower ironstone and sandstone wing
with fishscale tile hanging on roof to centre. Right hand return front:
(facing the street) double gabled bays with two windows to first floor
left under gauged brick heads with label mouldings. Two diagonal stacks
on ridge.
