House, now home for the elderly. Late C17 with C19 alterations and considerable
C20 extensions to rear and left. Whitewashed brick with hipped slate roof. End
stacks. Taller 3 storey block to right with plat band over ground floor. 5 bays
with centre one projecting. Glazing bar sash windows in architrave surrounds and
projecting cills under painted, guaged brick, heads. First floor central window in
lugged surround with small scrolls to bottom. Central double half-glazed doors
under traceried transom light in architrave surround. Flat hood on acanthus console
brackets with rich carving of fruit and flowers down panelled piers to sides. Lower,
3 storey 3 bay range to left. Right hand return front : C19 polygonal projecting
window on bracket supports to first floor. Semi-circular bowed bay to rear.
Interior: Fine panelled and richly carved ceiling to drawing room- C17. Foliage and
fruit garlands. Further decorative ceilings and panelling to ground floor rooms.
C17 staircase , restored after a fire in the 1970's with square panelled newel posts,
barley-sugar and turned balusters to balustrade.
