Almshouse pair, Circa 1912. Red brick with raised brick quoins and wooden cornice
to hipped plain tiled roof. 4 panelled stacks. 1 storey and attic under 4 hipped
dormers, central return gable with "Venetian" window type casement in first floor.
Central round-headed entrance with brick impost blocks and keystone, flanked by
windows to left, 3 to right. Central arch blocked at time of resurvey, entrances
at present in the sides.
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
