Farmhouse. C17 with substantial late C18/early C19 addition. Timber
framed encased in C19 brickwork and colourwashed Flemish bond brick with a
plain tile roof with lead flashings. Two storeys with attics, and single
storey with attic. Entrance front: symmetrical facade of late C18/early
C19 date of 3 bays. Central door of 6 raised and fielded panels. Pilaster
strips to the sides with an open pediment surrounding the fanlight. To
right and left of this at ground floor level are Venetian windows, the
central sashes of 3 x 4 panes with lateral lights of 1 x 4. The arched
head to the central sash is divided from it by a fluted transon. To the
first floor are lateral tripartite windows with central sashes of 3 x 4
panes and above the front door is a sash of 3 x 4 panes. To the attics are
3 dormer windows each having 3 x 2 panes and a small pedimental gable. The
right hand side of the house has 3 bays near-symmetrically disposed. To
either side at ground floor level are Venetian windows, similar to those on
the entrance front but being C20 replacements of late C19 canted bay
windows, the brick relieving arch of the right hand one being still visible
at right. Central window of 3 x 4 panes. To the first floor is a central
dummy window of 3 x 4 panes with a flat-arched head and to either side are
tri-partite windows similar to those on the entrance front. Recessed and
at right is a 2-storey outshut. Left hand flank: lean-to glasshouse at
ground floor level and blocked windows to ground floor level at right, and
a 3-light casement window to left. To the first floor are 4 bays, the
right hand 3 being blocked and that at left being of 3 casement lights.
Extending service wing at left, which is C16 refaced in C19 brick with
random fenestration.
Interior: Chamfered ceiling beams to the C16 wing. The late C18/early C19
wing has an open-well staircase of 3 flights with a ramped handrial, stick
balusters and a wreathed curtail. Later c19 fireplaces to the rooms
