Description

WETHERDEN STOWMARKET ROAD
TM 06 SW

4/231
- Barn Cottage

GV II

House, mid or late C16. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and plastered with large
late C20 panels. Plaintiled roof with axial C20 chimney of red brick. C19
small-pane casements. Glazed panelled entrance door in late C20 pantiled
porch; this and the attached set-forward carport to right are not of special
interest. The house was formerly in one occupation with the adjacent house,
Rose Cottage (see following item), until subdivision in C19. It contains 2
cells; at the left is a hall with good moulded early C16 ceiling joists and
beams perhaps reused, and a good open lintelled fireplace. Tension-braced
close-studding. The cell to right was added in C18; typical framing exposed.
A rear extension of C18/C19 origins, remodelled in C20.
