Two houses: built as one in late C16, subdivided with alterations in early
C19. Alterations of c.1980. Originally of 3-cell plan. 2 storeys. Timber
framed and plastered. Concrete pantiled roof, once thatched; an axial chimney
of early C19 gault brick. Mid and late C20 small-pane casements. Single
storey C20 extensions at either end, containing entrance doors to both houses.
Good quality exposed studding with diamond mullioned window evidence. Within
the early C19 roof there remains an original roof structure, half-hipped at
either end, and with a vestigial queenpost system. Pond Cottage contains the
parlour cell; the original chimney between hall and parlour was removed in C19
and replaced by another in a central position between the cottages. Included
despite C20 alterations because of C16 core, and as an interesting example of
the subdivision of an earlier house into cottages in C19.
