ST 96 NE BROMHAM WESTBROOK
(north side)

2/68 The Cottage

GV II

House, late medieval to C17, timber-framed with painted brick,
Bridgwater tiled roof. Two and 2½ storeys. North end block is
tall, square plan, gabled to east and south, hipped at north-west
angle, with south end stack. Exposed framing in east end with
small first floor casement pair with triangular heads. C20 ground
floor window. Heavy square framing with angle braces and tension
braces. From south end a lower range runs south, mostly painted
brick, encasing timber-frame. South gable end, to road, has
cambered-head casement pair above, door and C20 window below. From
south end a timber-framed former barn range runs west, part cased
in painted brick, part weatherboarded with 2 dormers and C20 ground
floor openings. A low weatherboarded former stable extends beyond.
Interior said to contain remnant of late medieval open hall
remodelled c1600.
