Listed mainly for reasons of historical, interest, as an early example of
a practically complete range of buildings constructed for a Gas Works.
822 symmetrical design painted Roman cement with semi-circular-headed window
openings and panelled reveals throughout. 1 storey central block with
2 storey wings each side, curved on plan. There are large octagonal pavilions,
surmounted by slate roofs with simple domical ventilators at each end of
the elevation. Wings have pointed arched glazing bars to first floor windows,
2 to either side. End pavilions have tall arched panels, 1 to each face
and containing double arched panel, 1 within another, with imposts, to
each floor. Cornices to wings and centre, parapets to pavilions. Pavilion
on left has 1 ground floor window with pointed arched glazing bars. Single
storey centre rusticated with segmental gable to cornice above pair of
plain arched windows.
