Row of 4 shops. Formerly the Fox and Goose Inn, mid C18 with C19
alterations. 2 storeys and attics; 7 windows. Red brick, partly
rendered and painted C19 with false mortar joints. Plaintiled
double-pile roof with C18 coved soffit of wood and C19 flat-
roofed dormers; C18 axial chimneys. On the 1st floor, early C19
sash windows with flat arches of gauged brick, some with small-
pane sashes; 3 early C19 splayed oriel windows with flat roofs
and sliding sashes, 2 having small panes. The Wellington Diner
has a late C19 shop front with pilasters; other shop fronts are
mid C20. A mid C18 staircase with, at the upper level,
balustrading having turned heavy balusters alternating with
slats; at the lower level a lighter form of balustrading in the
Chinese Chippendale manner. Included for group value.
