An early C19 stuccoed archway which connects Arcade Street with King Street.
It has a central feature with pilasters, frieze amid a cornice surmounted
by a balustrade, and a central elliptical archway with a moulded stucco architrave
and plain Ionic columns inset at thc corners. The central feature is flanked
by 2 storeyed stuccoed wings, each of 2 window range. Some double-hung sashes
with glazing bars and some C20 casements. The ground storey has a 3-light
double-hung sash window on the north end and a C20 shop front on the south
end. The interior of the archway is a plastered elliptical barrel vault
in 3 sections. At the rear, in Arcade Street, the flanking wings are pedimented
(one with a Diocletian window). The south end has a tall window of double-hung
sashes with glazing bars.
Nos 1 and 2 form a group with the Corn Exchange and the Swan Inn, King Street.
