House, formerly farmhouse. Mid/late C17, with C19 and C20 alterations. Coursed
squared ironstone, banded with limestone, slate roof, brick end stacks on stone
bases. L-plan. 2 storeys and attic. 2-storey porch in re-entrant angle facing
left with C20 studded plank door with moulded wood surround and stop-chamfered
lintel and 2-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows to ground and 1st floors,
with hood mould to ground floor, blocked to 1st; plain stone-coped parapet.
similar 2-light window to ground floor of wing to left of porch and similar
3-light window above with hood mould. Wing to right of porch has 3-light
casement window to right of porch with stone surround of original 4-light stone
mullion window and similar 3-light window to lst floor above, both with hood
moulds. Garden front to rear has stone surrounds and hood moulds of 3- and
4-light stone mullion windows, all replaced by casements, except for one which
has become a garden door. 2 and 3 light ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows to
right side elevation, all with hood moulds, those to ground and 1st floor centre
and gable replaced by casements. Quoins, chamfered plinth and stone-coped gables
with kneelers. Single-storey extension to wing to right of porch has plain tile
roof, 4-panel back door with wood lintel, 3-light casement window to right with
wood lintel. Attached L-plan outbuilding has front wall of red brick and 2-bay
cart shed open to yard with elliptical-arched openings and 3 loose boxes in
return wing. Interior: wall has large Tudor-arched stone corner fireplace with
cut spandrels. Similar smaller fireplace in another room. Large open fireplace
with bar stop-chamfered cambered bressumer. Stone corner fireplace upstairs with
cambered chamfered stone lintel. Stop-moulded spine beams, stop-chamfered spine
beams and ogee stop-chamfered joists. Dog-leg staircase from ground floor to
attic Collar-truss roof.
