Public library. Circa 1870. Red brick with moulded cornice to steep slate
roof, articulated as tall steeply-pitched pavilion roofs at both ends with
small square cast-iron balustrades and weather-vane finials surmounting.
Large brick and stone-dressed stack in centre behind main ridge with over-
sailing stone-moulded upper courses. 1 storey and basement; 4 window
front, pointed-arched surrounds with hood-moulds to casements, on cill-band.
Central entrance with stone flat-headed porch with parapet, pierced by
quatrefoil decoration. Central pointed arch with moulded imposts and
panelled spandrels. Hollow-chamfered arch to doubled panelled door.
