House. Late C16/C17 with C19 extension to right. Timber framed on sandstone
rubble and brick plinth, sandstone rubble and brick infill below, some in herring-
bone pattern, whitewashed rendered infill above. Some acorn and rose patterns in
plaster on the first floor, plain tiled roof. T-shaped plan. Two storeys. Four
framed bays to left with ogee bracing on the first floor and corbelled stack to
rear centre. Five casement windows across the first floor, one with diagonal
mullions. Four windows on the ground floor. C20 door to right of centre.
Extension to right, half timbered with jettied gable on first floor supported by
scroll braces. One 3-light leaded casement and one small window in set back bay
to left, one arched window to ground floor. Half-glazed door with pointed head
in pointed arch surround and chamfered, deep, reveal. Deep eaved catslide to right
end. Single storey weatherboarded range to left. The house stands adjacent to
the site of a Roman Villa (120-330 AD) with baths and attached various buildings.
