Public house. C18 incorporating probably C16 fabric; altered. Painted brick in
Flemish bond, some painted rubblestone; plain tile roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays.
Two doors, on right of bays 1 and 3, each with small-pane glazing above 2
panels, that on right below header brick arch, that on left with 3-light
transomed window to its left having pilasters and frieze bearing name of pub.
Between doors, a segmental brick-arched 3-light small-pane casement window. 3
similar square-headed windows to first floor and on left a platband. C20
projecting pub sign. Stepped dentilled eaves. Roof hipped on right with 2
stacks at rear. Right return: ground floor of rubblestone. Rear: short central
wing with gable stack; later C19 single-storey extension to this wing and C20
wing on right not of special interest. Interior: not fully inspected, but left
bay on ground floor has hollow-moulded spine-beam, lambs-tongue-stopped joists,
wall post, and cross-beam on right with mortices in soffit indicating position
of former wall (possibly end wall, the earlier building formerly extending
further to left).
