II*
Timber-framed building; probably C16 to C17. Two storey, attic and cellar. Ground floor colour-washed brick, with tile-hung upper part, alternate double courses of plain and shaped tiles. Ripped old tile roof. Two dormers partly with lead casements to right hand. Two four-light mullioned and transomed casements, lower lights altered to left hand, central late C18 sash window, and C19 angular bay to right hand with three sash windows with glazing bars intact and with elaborate frame enriched with clusters of slender shafts at angles supporting cornice and hipped roof and with panelled apron on first floor. Bowed shop window of Georgian style to left hand on ground floor. A pair of central, modern glazed doors (replacing a pair of panelled doors, the left hand one formerly with C17 frame). Wide curved bow to right hand (restored) with delicate enriched cornice. The upper part of the building slightly oversails the ground floor, and has early C19 scroll bracket supports at right hand corner and adjoining doorhood. Interior has flat arched brick fireplaces and evidence of timber-framed construction.

Rear wing: partly timber-framed and partly of late C18 to mid C19 style construction with brick dentil eaves and red brick front. Part of the Castle theatre comprises a timber-framed building, originally a granary, which connects with the rear wing to No 68 Castle Street.
