2 houses and 2 shops. The Grange, to left: datestone 1710 on rear wing, with
c,1830 extensions to rear and c.1850 conservatory. Flemish bond brick set on
limestone rubble plinth with flared headers to front; gabled stone slate roof;
brick ridge and rear gable end stacks. L-plan with rear left wing, and
through-passage to right. 2 storeys and attic; 4-window range. Flat brick arches
over late C18 six-panelled (2 glazed) door and over 6-pane sashes with shutters.
Raised storey band; moulded brick cornice. Two roof dormers with C20 casements.
Rear: c.1830 stair-well and extensions of similar materials, with margin-light
sashes; central conservatory added c.1850. Wall to rear left, extends
approximately 60 metres: of early C18 chequer brick with stone coping. Wall to
rear right, extends approximately 70 metres: of early C18 chequer brick, and
early C19 rat-trap bond to rear section. Interior: boxed beams and butt-purlin
roof: chamfered beam, chamfered stone fireplace and spice cupboard in rear left
room. Early C19 staircase. Long range to right of The Grange: early/mid C18 of
similar materials; 2 storeys, with storey band and similar mid C19 extension of
2-window range to right; probably an early C19 former flax-drying mill with
gallery and drying-racks in similar rear wing.
