Description

SP2604-2704 ALVESCOT STATION ROAD (South-west side) 9/25 Butlers Court 12/09/55 II House. Said to be C16 in origin but earliest surviving structural features are C17. Raised C18 and extended to rear C19. Coursed limestone rubble with semi-dressed quoins, stone slate roof, ashlar and rendered chimneys with moulded stone strings. 2 storeys and attic, 4 bays. Ground floor has 3 4-light windows with recessed hollow-chamfered stone mullions and Tudor hoodmoulds, the centre window totally renewed C20. First floor has wide 3-pane sashes, also renewed C20, with wooden lintels and traces of alteration to some jambs. 3 small gabled roof dormers with paired barred wooden lintels and traces of alteration to some jambs. 3 small gabled roof dormers with paired barred wooden casements. C20 metal French doors to second bay. Single storey C20 garden room extension to right. Right gable end has traces of C17 roofline. Rear has C20 double doors to right bay, in 4-centred wooden arch, and early/mid C19 parallel range to remainder. This range has stair window, 4-pane sashes to first floor, 2 2-light stone mullion windows to ground floor, and a later C19 stone bay window with arched lights. Interior: fireplace in original right bay has dressed stone jambs and renewed wooden lintel. Passage to side of stack has 2 C16 wooden doorways, probably re-sited, with 4-centred arches, stopped mouldings and small shields in spandrels. One doorway has carved feathering to spandrels. C19 dog-leg stair with split balustrade, possibly re-using older turned newels.
