GV II
Town house, (No 56) with Nos 58 and 60 late C19 and C20 extensions to left-hand
side, now offices. Late C18. The main house of Ham stone dressings to cut and
squared local stone, with Welsh slated roof behind parpaet and between coped
gables, with (truncated and sealed) stone stacks crowning each gable. 2-storey
facade of 3-bays, the entrance being in the right-hand bay. The door surround
has Roman Doric attached unfluted columns supporting a plain entablature, which
flanks a keyed semi-circular arched doorway (the door and fanlight being
modern): plinth, in which the heads of two 2-light basement windows appear;
above at ground floor level sash windows without glazing bars in architraves
with keystones; at first floor level 3-similar sash windows in shouldered
architraves without keystones (the right-hand window architrave, over the door,
being heeled also); Stone band course at first floor level, and dentilled
cornice; quoins unmarked. Nos 58/60 represent a matching extension up to cornice
level possibly with flat roof: the first floor window to No 60 set lower, and
the doorway thereto has a recent aluminium door and fanlight. The rear elevation
and interiors not inspected. Also of interest the (truncated) panelled stone
gate piers to the entrance to No 56.
