Dated 1867. Monumental mason's Gothic conceit. Assymmetrical detached house of 2
storeys, attic and basement. Rubble with a short string course to right of ground
floor. Tiled roof with fishscale bands. Bargeboards to gables. Ashlar quoins.
Large gable to left. Gabled half dormer to 1st floor right. 3 windows on 1st floor,
4 on ground floor, outer 2 transomed in angle on corners supported by colonettes.
Ground floor left hand window under chimney corbelling (chimney removed). Unusual
tracery panels to ½ basement flanking door. Central doorway with Caernarvon-arch
and stilted pointed over-arch with flamboyant tracery within. Right hand 1st floor
window has griffin spewing a twisted colonette downwards to dated corbel on string
course.
Panel in front chimney stack with scrolls, one inscribed "Portway". Monogram panel
to right of door.
Part of former yard wall survives with "Marble Works" carved on it in raised letters.
