Country house.Said to be C17 in origin,early C19 refronted,C1865 west wing and entrance porch added,C1880 east wing(demolished 1930s)and Flemish gables added.Roughcast over rubble,slate roofs,decorative ridge tiles and Tudor style chimney pots.Plan:two full height curved bays with shaped gable on south front,west wing with former dining room set back,linked by single storey loggia with porch.South front:two storeys with attic,three:one:three:two bays,shaped Flemish gables to curved bays flanking entrance with shaped gable,two bays right,moulded cornice,moulded plinth,twelve-pane sash windows over hood mould,square headed glazed door approached by three steps;left return ashlar porch gable end of south front with square pilasters and crest of the Warre family.Interior:C19 fittings,panelled library,imposing top lit stair with first floor gallery,tessellated floor.The property was purchased by Henry Warre in 1862,having previously been tenanted by relatives of Spencer Perceval,the Prime Minister murdered 1812.The Flemish gables are reminiscent of those at Woodlands House(qv)Wellington Without CP.(Photograph in NMR).
