Handsome examples of the early-mid C18 town house. Each two storeys, attic and
basement, four windows. Brownish-yellow brick with red brick dressings. High
pitched tiled roof with two dormers, sash windows with glazing bars, classical
cornices and flat, leaded tops. Moulded and modillioned wood eaves cornice.
Early C19 sash windows with delicate glazing bars in near-flush moulded wood architraves
all under finely gauged brick arches, cut and curved on first floor, supporting
moulded string on ground floor. No 41 has door of six fielded panels; other doors
altered; all under rectangular fanlights, Nos 41 and 43 paired. Doors, set in
panels of stucco banded rustication, have Doric entablature door-cases (that of
No 39 a restoration) with large segmental pediments over.
GLC blue plaque on No 43: JOHN FRANCIS BENTLEY 1839-1902 ARCHITECT LIVED HERE.
