9.1.70 Little Dean's Yard:
Staircase to Doorway and
Gateway to 'School' and
Busby Library

Gateway, stairs and doorway. Stone gateway of 1734 and staircase with
upper doorway of 1664-9. Stone. The gateway, stairs and doorway give
access from Little Dean's Yard to the Busby Library and the south end of
the Dormitory range on 1st floor level (see also under Great Cloisters).
Semicircular arch to gateway of rusticated masonry with moulded imposts,
cornice and pediment overall; Royal Coat of Arms in tympanum. The
staircase is a straight flight flanked by parapets with strapwork scrolls.
The doorway is archivolt arched, with block keystone, flanked by Ionic
pilasters carrying cornice and blocking course.
