13.9.74 Custom House
with forecourt

Custom House. 1893/4. Deep red brick with matching terracotta details
and copper dome. Two storeys on plinth with moulded string course and
quoins to modillion eaves cornice with balustraded parapet. Dome with
lantern with columned drum, lion's mask frieze, dome and weather vane.
Five bay front , with projecting surrounds giving l:3:lrhythm
Segmentally headed sashes, with glazing bars to upper leaves; all set
in Ionic columned surrounds, with balustrade to 1st floor windows.
Central double panelled doors, with segmental fanlight in keyed and
moulded surround. Simple railed forecourt. Interior: original staircase
hall & offices survive.
