II
Partly in West Farleigh civil parish. House, formerly house pair, now
house. Later C18, with early C19 additions. Timber framed, weatherboarded,
with plain tile roof. Later C18 house built at right-angles to, and set
back from, road, with two early C19 additions between it and road. South-
facing. Left (west) section: 2 storeys and attic. Half-hipped gambrel
roof. Central brick ridge stack, and projecting brick gable end stack to
right. Two flat-roofed two-light dormers. Regular 2-window front of two-
light casements. Two sixteen-pane sashes with shallow hoodmoulds to
ground floor. Boarded door with flat bracketed hood, to right end.
Weatherboarded rear lean-to. Central section: 2 storeys, on stone plinth.
Roof with lower eaves and ridge than left section, gabled to right. One
sixteen-pane sash to first floor. Ground floor underbuilt in ragstone to
front, open to rear as a shelter. Right (east) section: 2 storeys, on
stone plinth. Roof lower than that of central section, half-hipped to
right. Irregular fenestration of 2 two-light casements. Boarded door with
lean-to hood towards right end, with small sixteen-pane fixed light to left
of it. Short, narrow, two-storey weatherboarded rear return wing to right
with projecting right side stack. Two-storey parallel rear range to rest
of right section. Interior not inspected. Formerly known as Smith's Hill
Cottage.
