BIDDENDEN
COT LANE
Weavers Cot

(Formerly listed as The Cott)

II*
L-shaped timber-framed and close-studded building with plaster infilling. The main or east-west wing is early C16, circa 1535, the south wing probably a later addition. Two storeys. The first floor of the north front mostly oversails on a moulded bressumer and brackets but the west corner of the ground floor is faced with red brick and the first floor above it never was jettied. The whole of the west front, of which the first floor once was jettied, has been similarly underbuilt. Hipped tiled roof. Casement windows with small square leaded panes. On the first floor are four oriel windows of five lights with plaster coves beneath them and carved brackets at the side of them. On each side of these and of the ground floor windows were smaller windows now blocked. The south front is tile hung. The interior has no crown post to the roof but a C16 staircase and early C18 panelling. Moulded fireplaces upstairs.
