2/99 Windy Bank Farmhouse
23. 6. 1965 (Formerly listed as Windy Bank)
- II
Farmhouse, probably early C17, altered, now dilapidated. Rubble, faced
with sandstone blocks, brought to courses, with quoins; stone slate roof
with gable copings, (some missing), and chimneys (now missing) at left
gable and on ridge at junction of 2nd and 3rd bays. Three-bay baffle-
entry plan (3rd bay projects), with later outshut to rear of 1st and 2nd
bays. Two storeys: at junction of 2nd and 3rd bays a 2-storey porch with
lean-to roof sweeping out from slightly above eaves level has at ground
floor a part-blocked doorway with shouldered lintel, and at 1st floor under
eaves a small chamfered window lacking its mullion. To left, at junction
of 1st and 2nd bays is a later single-storey porch (once gabled, now
dilapidated), flanked by formerly-mullioned 4-light windows (that on right
partly taken into doorway); at 1st floor a square window and a 2-light
window with flush mullion. To right, front wall has collapsed and 3rd
bay is gutted, but has chamfered rectangular fireplace at 1st floor,
2-tiered doorways at rear of cross wall, and a small blocked 3-light
window with wooden diamond mullions at 1st floor. Rear wall of 1st
floor. Rear wall of 1st bay has altered windows with very large jambs.
