Toll House on Garstang to Heiring Syke Turnpike (Act 1750), probably early
C19, with one gate pier on each side of road to south. Squared sandstone
rubble with slate roof and overhanging eaves. Gable wall faces road and is
of 2 storeys in the centre and one at each side. To each side of the
facade there is a small window with glazing bars and round head. Between
them is one 2-storey bay which has modern windows with plain reveals. To
its right is a door with plain stone surround and cornice hood. The gate
piers are each of limestone and circular on plan. The one on the eastern
side of the road, adjoining the toll house, has an iron cap with a central
threaded pivot for the gate projecting upwards. The pier on the other side
of the road has a rounded top.
