Brackenbury Farm is a C16 brick building to which has been added in early-mid
C17 a substantial timber framed house, now Brackenbury House. 2 storeys and
attic, 4 bays, irregular. Walls now pebbledashed. Half hipped tiled roof
has 2 original ridge stacks, tall, square and with segment headed panels.
Windows mullioned and transomed casements. Modillioned eaves cornice. Later
lean-to at right. Inside very stout timbers visible including some of side-purlin
roof with wind braces and ashlared rafters. Good staircase, rising to attic,
has stout turned balusters, square section handrail and closed moulded string.
Inglenook altered but open. 2 original bolection moulded stone fireplace surrounds.
Rear view shows four wide bays mostly C18 or C19 sash windows with glazing
bars; but 2 modern windows and a canted modern bay have glazing bars to match.
Brackenbury Farm 2 storey, 2 windows of old brick with enormous end chimney
having crow-stepped offsets and paired diagonal shafts. On inner return 2
windows and a modern dormer breaking eaves. Old tiled roof. Modern extensions
on south side; also leaded casements and 6-panel door. Splendid inglenook
inside, and heavy beams.
