19/87 Pump and surrounding
railed enclosure

GV II

Hand water-pump and surrounding railed enclosure. Late C19 for Nelthorpe
Estate. Painted cast-iron pump and railings on ashlar plinth; flagstone
paving. Enclosure approximately 2 metres square, with entrance to south-
west and central column pump. Round-chamfered plinth with drain outlet to
east, carrying railings with tapered column principals with bulb finials to
angles and entrance, and plain bars with ornate finials above single top
rail. Pump has octagonal column with moulded base and capital decorated
with fleur-de-lys and roundels in relief, pump spout to east with foliate
decoration and slender curved handle to north side. Handle strapped to
column, pump not in use at time of resurvey.
