Built for the Balston family who owned Springfield Mill. Architect Alfred
Waterhouse 1891. A large irregular house of 2 storeys red brick with yellow
brick dressings. Tiled roof with ridge tiles. The right side has a projecting
gable with finials. Central gable, also with finials. On the left hand side
there is a 2 storey gable which has the entrance underneath. Round-headed
recessed doorway in Renaissance style surround flanked by fluted pilasters.
Windows are mullions or mullioned and transomed casements. Panel above the
doorcase with date stone.
