6 houses. c1760. For Gilpin Sawrey. Roughcast stone with slate roof.
3 storeys, 9 bays, 3rd, 4th and 5th houses of one bay each. Top cornice,
missing to 6th house. Most windows are sashed. 1st house (Laural Bank)
has casements to 2nd floor, central entrance has 6-fielded-panel door 2 glazed.
2nd house (Rydal House) has central entrance with blind round-head, reeded
archivolt and key. 3rd house has entrance with half-glazed door and small-
paned basement window. 4th house (Homeleigh) as 5th house (Sunny Brae) have
casement windows and small-paned basement windows; half-glazed doors. 6th
house (Lathom House) has basement windows and entrance. Sash windows have
vertical glazing bars. Entrance has 6-fielded-panel door; iron area railings.
Gable-end stacks and 4 cross-axial stacks. Rear has varied fenestration
retaining some sash windows, small-paned fixed glazing and tall stair
windows. Built as part of planned town square, an unusual feature in a
Cumbrian village.
