NY 57 NE BEWCASTLE

Farmhouse and barn. Dated over entrance 1763. Whitewashed random rubble, slate
roof, chimney stacks. Single storey, 3 bays with barn to right under common roof.
Central entrance has chamfered stone surround and dated lintel; C19 2-pane sash
window to right in plain stone surround. Rear wall has original small square fire
window and C19 2-pane sash windows. Barn has plain stone surround entrance, slit
vents at 2 levels to right and in end wall. Interior of house has stone heck post
with chamfered post to carry the bressumer. See E. Mercer, English Vernacular
Houses, RCHM, 1975, pp13-14. Listing excludes outbuilding at right angles to left.
Empty and derelict at time of survey.
