Monument. Erected 1822. Portland stone. Small monument with a square pedestal with inscribed panelled sides and a short obelisk on top with an urn finial. Inscriptions:- To the Memory of Valentine Gray The Little Sweep Interred January the 5th AD 1822 In the 10th Year of His Age. In Testimony of The General Feeling for suffering Innocence. This Monument Is errected By Public Subscription.
NOTE: Erected by public subscription in 1822 in memory of Valentine Gray, the boy chimney sweep who died as a result of ill treatment by his employer Benjamin Davis.
A good example of a small late Georgian public monument.
