SP 91 NE DOWDESWELL LOWER DOWDESWELL

4/35 Dowdeswell House
II

Detached house. Early C17, late C18, C19, extended 1932 (date on
rainwater head). Ashlar facade, otherwise coursed squared and
dressed limestone, stone slate and concrete tile roof, stone
stacks. 'L'-shaped plan, C17 wing at rear with later probably C19
outbuildings attached. C18 style extension (dated 1932) to right
gable end of main body, projecting porch probably of similar date
off-centre left. Main body; 2 storeys and attic lit by 2 and 4-
light hipped roof dormers. Eight-windowed facade, all 12-pane
sashes with plain architraves. Canted 2 storey bay at left gable
end. Band between ground and first floor windows. Segmental head
to porch, double part-glazed doors with fanlight at front of porch,
glazed door within. C17 wing at rear lit by 2 and 5-light hollow
chamfered casements. Parapet to late C18 main body, axial stack.
