10/37 Slaughter Mill and
Sluice Bridge, and
25.8.60 Post Office
(previously listed as The
Mill )
Early C19. In two builds, part red brick and part (Post Office) coursed rubble,
Cotswold stone roofs. Two storeys and attics, three windows, two and three light
wood casements in elliptical heads. Plain door with gabled hood. Two single
storey wings. The principal features are on the south gable tall red brick
chimney with stone weathering and large iron breast shot wheel. Most of the
original gearing and other machinery is retained, including grinding gear. As
the only large brick building it takes a notable place in the village scene, and
forms an important part of a very well loved picturesque view. The sluice bridge
is a simple ashlar construction over the sluice, behind the wheel, hump-backed
over segmental arch and without parapet.
