4/90 Curtain wall, gateway and chapel
to south west of Rodborough Fort

Curtain wall, including gateway, turrets and chapel. 1761; chapel
probably c1870. Random rock-faced rubble limestone; ashlar
dressings. Forms 3 sides of courtyard to south west of, and
adjoining, house at Rodborough Fort (q.v.). Principal elevation to
south west has large 4-centred arched gateway with plank doors
flanked by tall square turret to right and lower circular turret to
left; machicolated and crenellated parapet to this part of
curtain wall. Wall continues to left to small square corner turret
then faces north west, stopping short of north west facade of
house. Section of wall to right faces south east linking at far
end to south corner of house, incorporating further 4-centred
arched gateway with double plank doors. Attached former coach
house has C20 alterations to ground floor. On interior of
courtyard small chapel runs along north west facing wall, having 4
lancets on side wall and larger east window with Decorated tracery.
Interior of chapel not inspected. Forms part of group with house
at Rodborough Fort.
