Rose Cottage
- II
Detached cottage. Possible C17, but with C19 fenestration. Large squared and
dressed limestone blocks, stone slates to south slope and concrete tile north
slope, including outshut, stone gable stack with capping at road end. A simple
block set gable to the roadm which is near the old road now by-passed by the
later B4070. Two and a half storeys, 2 windowed, 2-light reserve chamfer
mullioned casements, one with stopped drip ground floor left; central C19 plank
door in C20 gabled porch. In gable to road at high level is a small fixed glass
opening in chamfered surround with stopped drip, and, low left, a wood lintel
over a flush blocked former opening: this probably was entry beside fireplace in
original layout. Modest, but one of the better preserved vernacular examples.
