Large house in process of division into two at time of resurvey - May 1987. C16-early C17. Coursed squared and dressed limestone with dressed stone quoins; square-panelled timber framing with brick infill; artificial stone slate and concrete tile roof; ashlar and brick stacks. 'L'-shaped main body linked on the south to a service range and timber-framed building. Main body cross- gabled 2 storeys and attic with 1½-storey service range. Twin- gabled west front with flat-chamfered plinth: 2 hollow-chamfered 3-light stone-mullioned casements with single stopped hood continued over a central door. Two 3-light hollow-chamfered slightly canted stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods to the first floor. Two 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods to the gables. Single-light window with hollow-moulded chamfers towards the apex of each gable. Central C20 studded plank door with fillets. Two 3-light hollow- chamfered stone-mullioned casements with Tudor-arched heads, carved spandrels and stopped hoods to the left gable end. Two-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with stopped hood to the attic. South-front of extension to rear: with projecting lateral stack; two single-light and two 3-light hollow chamfered stone- mullioned casements with Tudor-arched heads. East-facing gable with 4-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with Tudor- arched head to the ground floor. Two-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement above. All casements with leaded panes some retaining early fastenings. South-facing elevation of former service range and timber-framed building: stone-built part to the left with 5-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with stopped hood and 2-light stone- mullioned casement with stopped hood flanking a central C19 plank door; 2-light roof dormer. Building with timber-framed first floor partly rebuilt in C20 brick to the right; two shuttered windows to the ground floor. Blocked window; small window with wooden mullions; plank door with pitching door above to the opposite side. Square dressed stones blocking ventilation holes in brick infill within the timber framing. Flat and stepped gable-end coping and roll-cross saddles, ball finials to house in addition. Projecting lateral and axial stack to house. Gable end stack to service wing. Interior of main body: C17 panelling to the principal downstairs room which is entered via an early door. Compartmented ceiling with deep flat chamfers. Wide Tudor-arched stone fireplace with roll moulding; overmantel with blind arcading and some engaged turned decoration; Cocks family arms at centre. Late C17-early C18 bolection moulded fireplace is partly concealed by moulded bressumer within an adjoining room. Cupboard in same room with C17 panelled doors Dog-leg staircase with turned balusters and newels; moulded handrails and ball finials. Early door with ventilation slits, under stairs giving access to cellar. Upstairs room with compartmented ceiling. Early doors to first floor and to attic rooms. Original roof timbers with curving principals. Interior of service range: large open fireplace with bressumer beam. Interior of timber framed building reputed to incorporate a dovecote, but not accessible. (V.C.H. Glos Vol VIII p13)
