Early C19. Red brick. Main front is south or garden front, irregular
with Ionic tetrastyle portico between two projecting wings. Four bays,
sash windows with glazing bars. Three storeys. Street front also has
two wings. Parapet, slate roof. Interior includes dining room panelling
from Mildmay House. (See also No 54 Chesil Street). The whole has been
much altered and extended, including in recent years.
The listed buildings from No 40 to Kingsgate House form a group.
