House, now hotel. 1775 - 6 by William Prattinton for himself, with some
late C20 alterations. Brick with hipped stone slate roof, stacks to side
walls. Three storeys, modillioned cornice; five windows: glazing bar
sashes under wedge lintels with keystones; second floor: 6-pane sashes
under similar heads; ground floor: central entrance has engaged Doric
columns to open pediment, fanlight Gothick glazed, 8-flush panelled door;
rear front: two bow windows rise through the three storeys, basement has
three large segmental arches carrying a terrace at the rear. Interior:
open well staircase with stick balusters, plaster cornices survive in most
ground floor rooms. This was the home of Peter Prattinton (son of William)
