Tannery and farmhouse, now house. Cl7 with early C19 and mid-C20 alterations.
Timber-framed with painted-brick infill on sandstone and -brick base; refronted
in roughcast brick; plain tiled.roofs. U-shaped plan; two framed bays aligned
north-east/south-west with large sandstone chimney and brick stack to south-
east side; from this south-east side projects two adjoining framed bays with
a two-span roof (the westernmost one encloses the sandstone chimney). Two
storeys, attic and cellar. Framing: four panels from sill to wall-plate,
short straight braces in some upper corners; cross-wing has collar and tie-
beam trusses with two collars, three struts to lower collar and two to upper
collar. South-east front elevation: windows have eared and shouldered archi-
traves; two ground and first floor 3-light casements; attic light in right
gable; entrance to left of centre has a C19 gabled porch (also roughcast), a
pointed and chamfered archway, rectangular side lights and a half-glazed door
within. Interior: framing mainly intact. Stop-chamfered main ceiling beams;
large fireplace in room to left of main entrance. A two-bay C19 brick addition
adjoins the north-west elevation. The sandstone tanning pits are said to
survive beneath the lawn to the south-east of the house.
