House and three walled
gardens, including
octagonal green house

House and adjoining walled gardens. Mid-late C18. Probably by
James Paine for Sir Mathew Lamb. Red brick. House has slate
roof with central chimney stack. 2 storeys with 3-sided E end.
Recessed sash windows with gauged brick heads and 1st floor brick
sill band. Flush panel double doors on N. Garden walls are 3-4
metres high and attached to W side of house. Shallow pyramid
coping. 2 long rectangular gardens on E. Roughly square-plan
garden on N with outbuildings attached to canted N walls.
Segmental-headed double gate on W side flanked by large heraldic
panel fragments with lion and dragon. In centre of N garden is
an octagonal greenhouse of early C19. Red brick piers and lower
walls. Cast iron roof structure and wooden glazing bars.
Moulded wood cornice with dentil course to square vestibule on S
side. Each face has 3 6-pane windows, the centre one a side-hung
ventilator.
