House. C16 S wing, hall rebuilt in C17, early C19 lean-to kitchen at SE, front faced in red brick and rear lean-to built c1917. Timber frame roughcast, S flank on ground floor renewed in yellow stock brick and brick-and-flint kitchen added in early C19. Red brick facing at front (but not gable triangle of crosswing) and N end, and rear lean-to. Steep old red tile roofs, carried down as catslide over rear brick lean-to. A 2- storeys L-shaped house facing W. A hall and crosswing plan with stair now rising inside the rear of the 2-bay crosswing. The hall has a single large bay with a narrow chimney bay at the N end. The chamfered axial beam lacks stops against the chimney which may have replaced a shallower timber-framed smoke-hood. The large fireplace is offset to the front possibly for an earlier staircase beside the stack. The fireplace and flue, for the chamber over the hall is a later addition probably C18. The front door enters the hall next to the wing which has a lower floor level. The crosswing is of 2 bays with 2 rooms on the 1st floor divided by an original partition. Axial beams and a cased crossbeam in the ground floor suggest 2 original rooms also, probably a parlour in front (W) and a dairy behind. The rear half now has an early C19 fireplace and projecting S side chimney. W front 2 windows wide with plastered gable on right and door in middle. 2-light small casement windows. Canted hipped small bay windows to ground floor flanking a gabled open timber porch to the 4-panel flush beaded door. White painted simple iron railings on dwarf wall along front. Exposed framing inside. S wing has curved tension braces in walls and partition, jowled posts, edge-halved bladed scarf joint with bridled butts, blocked 2-light window in S wall and wider window position in front wall both with recesses for sliding shutters, and a side purlin roof with wind bracing. The upper room in the hall range has jowled posts and curved braces to the tie-beam in front of the chimney, a side-purlin roof, and a blocked 4-light window in the rear wall said to have original leaded glazing but no arrangement for shutter. Old plank doors with iron fittings. Steps up from wing to room over hall.
