Former coaching inn, now 2 dwellings. Late C17, refronted and reroofed c.1820. Red brick, slate roof. Timber framed rear wing, weatherboarded and brick cased, steeply pitched tiled roof. Symmetrical 2:3:2 front. 2 storeys and cellar. Centre bays break forward slightly with ground floor glazing bar sashes and first floor 6 pane sashes with vertical glazing bars, all recessed with cambered heads. Blind horizontal panels below first floor windows. Above a dentilled brick pediment with a central oculus. Outer bays have a high plinth with cellar openings. Steps up to entrances towards centre, recessed part glazed doors, doorcases with reeded brackets to entablatures with outer triglyphs and mutules. Outer tripartite sashes on ground floor, first floor sashes as to centre. Slight rebates at return angles. Stacks to left of centre and internal at ends, all in front of ridge, that to right slightly extruded with offsets. Gable end blind and inserted openings with cambered heads, late C17 brick towards rear retaining original parapets with kneelers. To rear left extends early long former service wing. 1 storey and attic. Inner elevation has weatherboarding, 2 box dormers, ridge stack, outer elevation faced in red and white brick, the latter rat-trap bonded. To rear centre is a catslide roof over an early lean-to outshut with 2 entrances, 4 glazing bar sashes, a large hipped dormer and 3 small 2 light box dormers. To rear right a separate lean-to with a truncated stack on return, extruded with tumbled in offsets. Interior: early C19 stair with slat balusters, simple dados and cornices, some C19 inn fittings, some exposed timbers and early brickwork in rear wing. Formerly the Wheatsheaf and Angel Public Houses.
