Description

SY 18 NE BRANSCOMBE STREET (north side)

7/57 Yew Tree Cottage
-

GV II

Cottage. Probably late C18-early C19. Plastered local stone rubble; stone rubble
stack with plastered brick chimneyshaft; thatch roof.
Plan: 3-room plan cottage facing south-west and built across the hillslope and set
back from the lane. The right (south-east) room is heated by a rear lateral stack.
2 storeys.
Exterior: 3-window front of C20 casements mostly with glazing bars. The front
doorway is set right of centre and it contains a late C19 4-panel door under a
contemporary gabled hood. Roof is hipped each end.
Interior was not available for inspection at the time of this survey but it could be
seen that the 2 main ground floor rooms have no ceiling beams.
Yew Tree Cottage is one of a good group of mostly thatch-roofed buildings which make
up the attractive hamlet of Street.
