House, now shop. C17 rear wing with front part c1830-50 and later additions and alterations including later C19 shop front. Stucco over brick to front part; rear wing is timber-framed with external plastering, steeply-pitched slate roof. EXTERIOR: front part of 3 storeys with irregular 6/6 sash windows. Front facade has shop front with turned mullions and console brackets. Timbering visible on left-hand return and rear, wall post at angle with front range has mortice for mid-rail and sawn-off wall-plate. Casement windows. INTERIOR: 1983 List notes that the frame of square panels is intact; plain windbraces to double-purlin roof. One mid-C17 door (altered) to cellar from ground floor. One beam on ground floor has a wide, stopped chamfer. Together with The Restoration Inn (No.57) and No.331 (qqv) High Street, the C17 rear wing is the best known pre-Regency domestic survival within the boundaries of the early town.
