GV II
Former farmhouse, now 2 cottages. Early C17, possibly earlier. Plastered
cob on rubble plinth; stone and brick stacks; thatched roof. Traditional
3-room and through passage plan with inner room to right (now Deer's Leap Cottage). Roof hipped to right, half-hipped to left. Now 2-storeys
throughout plus 3 window front. Massive plastered volcanic stone stack
projects from hall to front (north-west). Apparently C19 stacks on rear
wall serving outer rooms. Passage door left of stack. Irregular
fenestration of C19 and C20 iron and wooden casements. Service room at
lower end with C17 axial beam supported on end wall by carved post. Oak
post-and-panel screen on lower passage side. Large C17 hall fireplace of
volcanic stone with oak lintel (chamfered with scroll stops). Rear hall
wall with C17 oak window of 2-lights and chamfered mullions. Original
framing exposed on first floor.
