13/73 The Old School House
and cottages


Gv II

Former village school and schoolmaster's house now divided into cottages. Circa
1840, Stone rubble. Slate roof with stone coping to gable ends. The school at
the right hand (west) end is single storeyed and has five chamfered stone
cross-mullion transom windows and left hand doorway in chamfered opening with
polygonal head incorporating a square fanlight above. Projecting chimney stack
with set-offs at centre of front. Lean-to at west end with gabled porch and
small stone gabled bellcote over end gable above. Gabled crosswing at opposite
(east) end is the schoolmaster's house with chamfered window opening on each
floor, ground floor two-lights, first floor single light and small slit in gable
above. East front three bays centre advanced slightly with chamfered corners.
