Description

ST 8806 1/37

EAST STREET (North Side)
No 32 [Lyston House]

27.10.50.

GV
II*
Probably post 1731 to mid C18.
2-storey 5-window front. 2 hipped dormers. Enriched modillion eaves cornice in rather poor repair. Usual brickwork. Brick quoin pilasters, plinth and string. Centre projects slightly. Sash windows with wide glazing bars and brick keys. Sunk aprons except under central 1st floor window, where the apron is raised. Doorway has narrow pilasters and pedimented hood on moulded and voluted brackets. Railings removed. Early C19 lower projecting wing on right-hand side. Apart from the doorway pertinent, which has probably been altered, this is a very perfect small Georgian brick front. Staircase; fielded panelling in front room; fireplace [see RCHM].

Nos 28 to 42 (even) and Dry Cleaners form a group.
