THE SQUARE (West Side), Terrace of four cottages 40 metres west of The Square House

(Formerly listed as: Terrace of four cottages 40 metres east of The Square House; Previously listed as (part of) range of ten cottages to the NW of road junction in middle village)



Terrace of four cottages, Early C19. Coursed rubble limestone with gritstone
dressings, two ridge stacks and a stone slate roof. Two storeys, regular window
pattern with 2-light chamfer mullioned openings, and single-light openings within
stone surrounds, all with hood moulds and stops, and generally with four-pane
casements. Stone framed doorways, one now blocked to form a window, all with
hood moulds and stops, and with C20 half-glazed doors. Front gardens enclosed by
low rubble limestone boundary wall, with half round gritstone copings, incorporating
four gateways and a water supply fountain stone with pointed arched head.
